Sermon Title: Divisions and Identity

1. You are not special.
“We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our
righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags.” - Isaiah 64:6

God did not save you because you were awesome.

You were saved in spite of you, not because of you.

You are loved beyond measure. You are someone God saw as
worth dying for.

You have value.

But it’s not because of what you can do, have done, or will do.

Resist the temptation that Paul addressed in Romans 12:3, “Don’t think you are better than you really are.”

2. I am not special.
“... he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.” (1 Cor. 1:21)

3. We are made “special” through Christ.
We didn’t do anything, but Jesus, He did everything!

“Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.” (1 Cor. 1:30)

1 Peter 2:9, “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen
people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own
possession.

Romans 8:16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we
are God’s children.17 And since we are his children, we are his
heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory.

Left to our own devices, apart from the grace of God, we are
capable our some pretty terrible things.

Without Christ as our Lord and Savior we are destined to an
eternity separated from God in a real place called Hell, no matter
how “good” we are.
