MESSAGE TEXT
Proverbs 31:10-31
*
INTRODUCTION
Beauty is a two-tiered proposition. The first level or tier of beauty and attraction is physical attraction. God is a beautiful God. He’s a creator. He made everything that we see. We praise God for how he made us and we want to present that well. In tier one; all the magnets that draw us to another person are external, physical things.
*
The second level or tier of beauty and attraction is really much more important than the first tier and is based on inner qualities. At tier two, we see that beauty has a character aspect to it. In tier 2 beauty, our goal is to honor God, to be like Jesus. Our goal is to draw people to Him, not to ourselves.
*
CONTEXTUALIZATION
Solomon (nickname King Lemuel) took all he learned from his mom (Bathsheba) (Proverbs 31:1-9), and created a mosaic, an ideal, a picture of beauty from all the seasons of a woman’s life – and Solomon put it together in one proverb. A literary mosaic is when we take different scenes from life and place them together in a unified narrative. This P31 portrait looks at various scenes throughout her life and puts it altogether in a finished product. This wasn’t a day in her life; it was the activities of a lifetime.
*
PROPOSITION
I want to share with you today some tier-2 Biblical Beauty Secrets that come to us in the form of counsel from a mom to a son and her future-daughter-in-law. Or, if you prefer, we can call them Practical Life Accessories (as a man might prefer to see it)… Today, I’ll even refer to P31 as a Bucket List (which I’ll explain). All these secrets, these life accessories, these "bucket-list" items - teach us one primary thing: true beauty, true strength - flows from who a person is, not just in how they look. Tier 2 beauty is not so much about how you look; rather it’s about how you see. A tier 2 beauty wants Jesus to be seen above all.
*
APPLICATION
Here are some key words to think about and to apply in your life. At least, once in your life, live out these ideas and values... (and these will be explained in the message based on our passage):
*
•Valuable
•Trustworthy
•Gracious
•Diligent
•Frugal
•Early-riser
•Improviser
•Worker
•Available
•Unique
•Kind
•Calm
•Dignity
•Deference
•Innovative
•Humor
•Modest
•Teacher
•Faithful
•Assured
•Reverent

*
CONCLUSION
You are a masterpiece created by God. God expresses Himself through beauty. We are made in his image, so we like to express ourselves through beauty. You’ve chosen to come to a place that teaches that the source of true beauty is a love relationship with Jesus! Jesus can heal what is broken in us. Renew your love relationship with Jesus and tier 2 beauty will start popping out in your new life.
