#5 - Maturation
His invitation is always a spoken or written request to join Him in what He is doing
Jesus’ invitation has an inspiration that creatively motivates us to participate in His will for us!
Revelation is always something that points to Jesus AND reveals heaven’s ways
Implementation is the process of cooperating with the blueprint of heaven
Maturation is the process of changing from one state to another
There are 3 biblically recognized forms of maturation -
- physical - bodily changes leading to adulthood and pro-creation
- soulish - mental, emotional, and identity leading to recognized “image” - Christ like in thinking.
- spiritual - the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ
Recognizing Spiritual maturity
2 - the milk of the Word grows us, solid food exposes us to the mystery of maturity.
3 - carnal, where there are envy, strife, and divisions it is called behaving like mere men.
- carnal - pertaining to flesh (as governing authority). “Though you are Christians, and are the friends of God in the main, yet your divisions and strifes show that you are yet, in some degree, under the influence of the principles which govern the people of this world. People who are governed solely by the principles of this world, evince a spirit of strife, emulation and contention; and just so far as you are engaged in strife, just so far do you show that you are governed by their principles and feelings.” Albert Barnes’ notes of the Bible, published from 1832 to 1872.
- envy - jealousy; referring to the state of the inward man. “…any exciting and agitating passion. The envy here referred to, was that which arose from the superior advantages and endowments which some claimed or possessed over others.” Albert Barnes’ notes of the Bible.
- strife - wrangling, contention, strife; referring to the content of their words. “They were continually disputing and contending whose party was the best, each endeavoring to prove that he and his party were alone in the right.” Adam Clarke’s notes of the Bible, 1810-1825.
- divisions - standing apart, dissension. “Refers to their conduct; as they could not agree, they contended till they separated from each other, and thus rent the Church of Christ. Thus the envying and grudging led to strife and evil Speaking, and this led to divisions and fixed parties.” Adam Clark’s notes of the Bible.
- behaving like mere men - used to make the distinction between sinful man, whose conduct, way, or nature is opposed to God. “You conduct yourselves as human beings of this earth, that is, as people commonly do; you evince the same spirit that the great mass of mankind does. Instead of being filled with love; of being united and harmonious as the members of the same family ought to be, you are split up into factions as the people of the world are.” Albert Barnes’ notes of the Bible.
