Sermon Notes

(Un)Expected: Invitation
Acts 11:1-18
May 25, 2025

Acts 10:14
“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”

Acts 10:15
“Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”

Acts 10:19-20
While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”

Acts 11:3
“You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”

Sometimes what we cherish God wants to change.

If people meet God, God will change people.
If I try to change people, it rarely helps them meet God.

God wants to make all things new. And he’ll do it for you if you’ll let him.

“The world needs a holy people who have learned the habits that are a foretaste of the coming kingdom.”
-T. Scott Daniels

Acts 11:17
“If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?”

Acts 11:18
When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”

We may not have the power to make people turn to God, but we can make it harder for people to turn to God.

Do we cherish something more than what God cherishes most?

Do we cherish something more than what God cherishes most?

“We should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.”
(Acts 15:19)

“God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
(Acts 11:18)
