Welcome to Beltsville Seventh-day Adventist Church. We are so glad you’ve joined us for worship today.
In these difficult times many are desperately looking for peace and relief from the unrelenting stress they face each day. Where can people find true peace? Jesus is the source of peace and hope for a better now and a better future. We individually should have an encounter with Jesus daily and experience the peace that only He can provide. We should be willing to make room and invite others to have that encounter with Jesus. We can start with one and go beyond.

Focus Text:
The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples. As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!” When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus. Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of these men who heard what John said and then followed Jesus. Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”). Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, “Your name is Simon, son of John—but you will be called Cephas” (which means “Peter”).
~John 1:35-42, New Living Translation

HEALTH MINISTRIES
Connection Is Key to Aging Well
Promoting health and preventing disease in older Americans is key to the health of the nation. In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General released his Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community which warned that about half of U.S. adults lack companionship and feel socially disconnected. As a group, older adults suffer the highest rates of disconnection. Human connection plays an important role in overall longevity and vitality that can’t be overlooked.
The health implications of what the Surgeon General aptly calls an “epidemic of loneliness and isolation” are staggering: a 29 percent increase in the risk of heart disease, a 50 percent increase in the risk of dementia, and a 60 percent increase in the risk of premature death, just to name a few (https://odphp.health.gov/news).
A longitudinal study conducted on AmeriCorps Seniors programs found that 84 percent of volunteers reported stable or improving health after 1 year of volunteer service. Additionally, 88 percent of volunteers who described feeling a lack of companionship reported decreased feelings of isolation after 2 years of service.
