God Calls us to Worship Him and No Other
Exodus 20:1 Then God spoke all these words: 2 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery. 3 Do not have other gods besides (before) Me. 4 Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God (desiring to protect and provide for My children)…
Exodus 23:13 "Pay strict attention to everything I have said to you. You must not invoke the names of other gods; they must not be heard on your lips… 25a Worship the LORD (Yahweh) your God, and He will bless your bread and your water (He will be your provision)…
David Gave a Call to Worship / The Inspiration Behind the Call / A Warning
Psalm 95:1 Come, let us shout joyfully to the LORD, shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let us enter His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout triumphantly to Him in song. 3 For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods. 4 The depths of the earth are in His hand, and the mountain peaks are His. 5 The sea is His; He made it. His hands formed the dry land. 6 Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. 7 For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the sheep under His care. Today, if you hear His voice: 8a Do not harden your hearts…
David Thus Inspired to Worship God / Repents / Asks God for Direction
Psalm 25:1 Davidic. LORD, I turn to You. 2a My God, I trust in You… 5 Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; I wait for You all day long. …14 The secret counsel of the LORD is for those who fear Him, and He reveals His covenant to them… 18 Consider my affliction and trouble, and take away all my sins… 22 God, redeem Israel (Your children, the people of God), from all its distresses.
Isaiah Repeats the Worthiness of God for Worship
Isaiah 40:18 Who will you compare God with? What likeness will you compare Him to? 19 To an idol?-- something that a smelter casts, and a metalworker plates with gold and makes silver welds for it? 20 To one who shapes a pedestal, choosing wood that does not rot? He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not fall over. 21 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not considered the foundations of the earth? 22 God is enthroned above the circle of the earth; its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like thin cloth and spreads them out like a tent to live in… 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never grows faint or weary; there is no limit to His understanding. 29 He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless.
Discipleship and Worship are Extremely More Costly & Difficult than We May Think
Mark 10:17 As He (Jesus) was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before Him (in a posture of worship), and asked Him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"… 19 You know the commandments: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness; do not defraud; honor your father and mother." 20 He said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these from my youth." 21 Then, looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, "You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me." 22 But he was stunned at this demand, and he went away grieving, because he had many possessions. 23 Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, "How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!" 24 But the disciples were astonished at His words. Again Jesus said to them, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." 26 So they were even more astonished, saying to one another, "Then who can be saved?" 27 Looking at them, Jesus said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, because all things are possible with God." 28 Peter began to tell Him, "Look, we have left everything and followed You." 29 "I assure you," Jesus said, "there is no one who has left house, brothers or sisters, mother or father, children, or fields because of Me and the gospel, 30 who will not receive 100 times more, now at this time-- houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions-- and eternal life in the age to come. 31 But many who are first (in their heart/priority) will be last, and the last first."
Romans 12:1 Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship.
