Advent: Preparing our hearts for Christmas
Luke 2:25-35
December 1st, 2024
Hope.
Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: How do you deal with waiting?
Read Aloud: Luke 2:25-35
1. v.25 “ Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel.” Simeon has been actively waiting for the Messiah, can you relate? Does waiting get easier or more difficult as time passes?
2. v.28-30 “he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation.” What characteristics of God do you see in these verses? How do you see God’s faithfulness in Simeon, Mary and Joseph’s life?
3. v.34-35 “And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is
appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” Why can there be no neutrality regarding our view of Jesus? Have you ever met an atheist or agnostic with hope? Why or why not?
