Sermon Title: Angels, Visions, & Gentiles - Pt. 2
Take home lessons from the first half of Chapter 10:
1. Spiritual disciplines are important to the life of a believer.
2.God speaks to his people and can use supernatural means.
3.We must move in obedience when He speaks.
vs. 34 - Peter hearing about this divine conspiracy is moved to exclaim, "God shows no favortism.”
The message of Jesus isn’t just for the Jews, it is for all!
Acts 2:38-39, “Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”
Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The gospel of Jesus Christ, the good news about Jesus can truly now GO to the ENDS OF THE EARTH!
vs. 39-41 - In the age before readily accessible textbooks and information catalogs, the EYE WITNESS accounts of people, multiple people, were of the utmost important.
"No single witness can convict another for any error or any sin that he may commit. On the testimony of two witnesses, or on the testimony of three witnesses, the matter should be established". - Deuteronomy 19:15
"Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses". - 2 Corinthians 13:1
vs. 44-46 - The Holy Spirit, rudely, interrupts Peter, steals his thunder and BAPTIZES all who were listening to the message.
They couldn’t doubt anymore as, “the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too.”
vs. 47-48 - NO CAN OBJECT! They “have received the Holy Spirit just as we did!”
Peter declared, “what happened in the upper room, has now happened here!”
Lessons from our passage today:
- Everyone deserves to hear the gospel - Rom 3:23, 5:8
- Jesus is still the only way to salvation - John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Ephesians 2:8-9
- The Holy Spirit fell then and can fall now! - Acts 1:8
