1 JOHN 1:1-4
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.

SHARE: What is a false teaching that you have been taught? How did it affect your life?
SHARE: What do you think of when you hear the word, “heresy?” What heresies are around today?
READ: ACTS 20:29-30. How does the writer describe these false teachers? Where do these false teachers come from? How do we detect false teaching in the church?
DISCUSS: Pastor Ken shared that heresy often happens when, “Instead of God’s divine revelation standing as judge over man’s ideas, man’s ideas judge God’s revelation. Where do you see this happening in the world today?
READ: 1 JOHN 4:2-3. How does this passage say you can recognize a teaching is from God? How can you know it’s false? What other tests do you think there are to discerning the truth? Why is Jesus coming in the flesh an essential of our faith?
READ: 1 JOHN 1:8. Do you think most people recognize they have sin in their lives? How does having the truth and recognizing sin work together?
READ: 1 JOHN 1:1-4. What truths do these verses teach us about Jesus? What truths does it teach us about ourselves? Why is fellowship so vital to Christian health and growth?
