The Gospel is life! It changes us, shows us how to live and treat one another. But we live under governments. It can be challenging to navigate our obedience to Christ in a post-Christian world, but the Bible gives us insight on how we can align ourselves to what God desires.
1.The Gospel Transforms us (Hebrews 10:19-21)
a.We are transformed into the Children of God (Brothers & Sisters)
b.We can enter into relationship with God
c.We are cleansed by Jesus’ sacrifice
d.The Gospel will make us into God’s Children: past, present, and future
2.Let us Live our Faith Together (Hebrews 10:22-25)
a.Let us draw near to God (Hebrew 10:22)
i.With a sincere heart
ii.With full assurance that faith brings
iii.Our hearts cleansed of a guilty conscious
iv.Our bodies washed with pure water
v.The world longs to draw near to God: that happens through Jesus alone
b.Let us hold to the hope we have (Hebrews 10:23)
i.Let us hold unswervingly
ii.Hold to the hope we have
iii.Because God is faithful
iv.We are all holding onto something: only God is sure
c.Let us consider how to spur one another on (Hebrews 10:24-25)
i.Let us spur one another on
ii.Spur to: love and good deeds
iii.We are pursuing something the world does not value
iv.We do this best by gathering together
v.Encourage one another
vi.Bring some urgency
vii. This group project will lead to individual participation
3.We live our faith under Government Authorities (Romans 13:1-7)
a.The blanket policy: abide by the Government’s laws
b.Government is established by God
c.If we disobey (for whatever reason, good or bad) we should expect consequences
d.Two-part response for the government:
i.Pray for them (1 Timothy 2:1-4) First that they know the gospel, then for wisdom and peace
ii.Respond with faith in obedience to God
Next Steps:
1.Invite the Gospel to transform our lives
2.Strive to live your faith with others
3.Pray that we can live our faith right in a lost world
