Parkerville Baptist Church
Romans 12:9-16 part 5
This Sunday Anthony will be bringing us the latest message in our Romans sermon series. All welcome! Anthony says: "This Sunday, we are instructed to be Joyful, Patient, and Faithful. Sounds achievable. But wait one minute, what are we meant to be Joyful about? And when are we meant to be Patient? And what are we meant to be Faithful in? We will drill into these things and see that inside of the human experience of pain and suffering, on the surface, the instruction to be Joyful, Patient, and Faithful can seem, at best, unachievable and, at worst, insensitive. Romans 12:12 get around it!"

“Somebody needs to address the other side of Christian life, if for no other reason than to uphold reality. We need to be told that difficulty and pressure are par-for-the-course. No amount of Biblical input, deeper life conferences or super-victory seminars will exempt you from struggle. God promises no bubble of protection.”

Chuck Swindoll
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Rejoicing in hope, being patient in tribulation, being constant in prayer.

Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.

Rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer.

Rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer.
"Hoping does not mean doing nothing. It is not fatalistic resignation. It means going about our assigned tasks, confident that God will provide the meaning and the conclusions. It is not compelled to work away at keeping up appearances with a bogus spirituality. It is the opposite of desperate and panicky manipulations, of scurrying and worrying.

And hoping is not dreaming. It is not spinning an illusion or fantasy to protect us from our boredom or our pain. It means a confident, alert expectation that God will do what he said he will do."

Eugene Peterson
Suffering is a greenhouse for Spiritual Growth and suffering is also the place where faith goes to die.
