Harvest Dinner
The Harvest Dinner is rapidly approaching. This is our annual free "Thanksgiving" for the seniors of Manteno. We have a lot of our food donations spoken for, still needing some fruit and sweet potatoes. To sign up to bring donations or cook a turkey, go to https://bit.ly/45LdXXr We still need an additional 10 turkey bakers. We are now also looking for people to help the day of. Sign up to help at the welcome center or contact the office.

Church Board Minute
October is Pastor/Clergy Appreciation Month. We encourage you to take a moment to find a creative way to appreciate our pastoral team. We have a great pastoral team leading us. While we always appreciate them, the month of October reminds us to make the extra effort to be deliberate in our recognition. We’ll take time on October 29 to formally recognize the pastoral team.
Our Pastoral Team:
· Pastor Ken Bushey, Lead Pastor
· Pastor Amy Kilpatrick, Children’s Pastor
· Pastor Marcus Cleveland, Student Ministries Pastor
· Nathan Lacher, Worship Leader

Pursuing the Heart of God: When God Seems Slow
1st Samuel 21-22
October 29, 2023
1 Samuel 13:14
“But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.”

Sometimes God seems slow.

1 Samuel 17:45, 50-51
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty...”
So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.

We love it when a plan comes together.

1 Samuel 18:6-7
...the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. As they danced, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.”

1 Samuel 18:8
Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?”

We hate it when a plan falls apart.
10
1 Samuel 21:8-9
David asked Ahimelek, “Don’t you have a spear or a sword here? I haven’t brought my sword or any other weapon, because the king’s mission was urgent.”

1 Samuel 21:8-9
The priest replied, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one.”

1 Samuel 21:8-9
David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”

1 Samuel 21:10-13
That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath. But the servants of Achish said to him, “Isn’t this David, the king of the land? Isn’t he the one they sing about in their dances: “‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands’?”

1 Samuel 21:10-13
David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath. So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.

When it seems life is falling apart
and God seems slow,
that is not the time to take things into your own hands.
That is the time to trust him even more.
