Big Idea: In everything you do, do it for the glory of God and the building up of His people.
I. Driven By a Heart for Jesus (vv. 14-21)
A. Paul has a profound appreciation of God’s grace toward him, and this drives him to a love for Jesus and His Gospel. When we truly understand God’s grace as revealed in Messiah Jesus, it changes our life and outlook on everything.
B. Paul is driven by a heart for Jesus:
1. In his ministry to the Gentiles (vv. 14-16).
2. In the Spirit’s work in and through him (vv. 17-19; cf. 1 Cor. 2:1-5).
3. In his zeal for the proclamation of the Gospel (vv. 20-21).
II. Driven By a Vision from Jesus (vv. 22-29)
A. Paul’s heart for Jesus is also informed by a clear vision from Jesus to preach the Good News and plant churches in unreached territory. This vision inspires Paul to completely trust God for His provision, protection, and power (cf. 2 Cor. 1:8-11).
B. In Paul’s vision from Jesus, we see:
1. A willingness to dream big (vv. 22-24; cf. Jer. 32:17) – We serve an Almighty God!
2. A willingness to give big (vv. 25-27) – A generous church promotes unity.
3. A willingness to trust big (vv. 28-29) – Paul’s steadfast confidence is in Christ and His blessings.
III. Driven to Prayer (vv. 30-33)
A. Paul clearly believed in the power, necessity, and effectiveness of prayer as he regularly sought it (see. Eph. 6:18-19; Col. 4:2-4; 1 Thes. 5:25; 2 Thes. 3:1-2, et al.).
2. God’s blessing in his ministry efforts.
C. What is your passion? In whatever we do, let it be done for the glory of God and the building up of His people.
