Communion
Chapel Rock practices an 'open communion' meaning that if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you are welcome to participate in the communion service. The elder/staff member giving the devotion will provide instructions.
Four cardinal virtues: wisdom, justice, self-control, and courage
Three theological virtues of faith, hope, and love
Virtue: one of an integrated set of habitual inner dispositions of an ideal human life ‎that is displayed by positive action
BIG IDEA: Courage is a virtue because it reflects the glory of God’s willingness to sacrifice something of Himself for a cause.
We have the ability to live lives of courage, to express this virtue, in ways that those in the world cannot BECAUSE Jesus is with us in ways that He is not with them.
Christians should be the most courageous people on the planet. And when the world doesn’t make sense, it’s even more important that we express this virtue. We must lean into the presence of Jesus in times of hardship and distress. Because of that, prayer, fasting, and being in the Word / abiding with Jesus are far more significant to living lives of courage than we may have first supposed!
Our moments of courage – when focused on attaining glory and honor for ourselves – will probably fall flat. But when we’re really focused on attaining glory and honor for Jesus, we will have a wellspring of courage that transcends even our natural abilities.
Courage can only be sustained by a love of something greater than self.
We must love Him enough to love what He loves; and if we do, we will love those who are far from God more than we love our own comfort.
BIG IDEA: Courage is a virtue because it reflects the glory of God’s willingness to sacrifice something of Himself for a cause.
