The Power of Encouragement

The Power of Encouragement

Living the Christian life can bring many challenges and times of discouragement for God’s people. When Paul arrived in Corinth, he was discouraged and afraid. God provided for Paul the friendship of Aquila and Pricilla to be an encouragement to him and others. God also encouraged Paul through a vision by telling him to not be afraid and to keep moving ahead on mission. God promised Paul that He would be with him, protect him, and assured him success on his mission. We too can be encouraged by clinging to these promises of God for us, as we press on for Jesus. --- God can do amazing things through ordinary people who are empowered by the Holy Spirit. In the book of Acts, the Holy Spirit was given to all believers and the church was born. The church is God's chosen instrument in the world for sharing the good news about Jesus Christ. The book of Acts is all about the unhindered movement of God throughout the world as the gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed through the church. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the early church was an unstoppable movement that proclaimed the Kingdom of God and Jesus Christ as the only way to eternal life. Today, the church empowered by the Holy Spirit is called to continue God's redeeming work in the world by fulfilling God's mission of making Jesus known to the ends of the earth.

Challenge: Sometimes the difference between the success and failure of a person’s life is the encouragement that they receive from others. People all around us are needing to be encouraged for one reason or another. Never underestimate the power of an encouraging word to the people in your life. Likewise, there are times we need to be encouraged. God’s Word is a great place to turn when we need encouragement for any reason, but especially when we are discouraged by sharing Jesus with others. Be faithful and press on in making Jesus known. God’s promise to you is that He is with you, will protect you, and that sharing Jesus with others will not return void.
