The Avenue Church
Identity Theft Week 3 - Predestined in Christ
We live in a time where there are countless voices telling us who we are and what we should be. The Book of Ephesians gives us a sure foundation to build our identity on who God says we are.

B. Predestination is a Function of God’s Being and His Will
God is an all-powerful (omnipotent) and all-knowing (omniscient) personal being. God is in control of the Universe, and everything that happens is according to the good pleasure of His will and counsel of His will (either by His action or His allowance)
C. God Has a Plan to Fulfill HIs Will
2. Does Mankind Possess Real Agency?

Agency = action or intervention, especially such as to produce a particular effect.
Free Agent = someone who can decide for themselves what they do,
B. We are Spiritually Dead Apart from Christ
The justice of God shows that everyone who experiences hell will truly deserve to be there, but the mercy of God shows us that not everyone who truly deserves hell (all of us!) will experience it.
APPLICATION
1. We Thank God For His Grace
2. We Humble Ourselves
3. We Proclaim the Good News to Others
Acts of the Apostles 20:26-27 NLT

Discussion Questions - Re-read our passage from this week (Ephesians 1:3-14) and then with your Growth Group, family, friends, etc. thoughtfully answer the following:

1. If you were to explain predestination to someone who had never heard of it, what would you say?

2. Does the mystery of God’s nature (especially with predestination) cause you to struggle intellectually, or do you accept this easily?

3. Like most complex issues, the extreme views can be dangerous. What is the danger of putting too much focus on God’s predetermined will? What are the dangers of putting too much focus on our “free will?”

4. How does understanding predestination make you more grateful?“

5. God’s plan of salvation is more about God than us. How does this challenge our normal way of thinking?

6. How does understanding Predestination motivate us to be more evangelistic, or does it?

7. What is your next step in following Jesus after this study?
