1. God's purpose for man began from dust and dirt.

Genesis 2:18...
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone...
God...

Genesis 1:26...
“Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.”

Genesis 2:7...
“...from the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being...”

- God did things differently when He created man.
- God made Adam of natural material (dust/dirt) + breath of God (power)
- God cared intimately that Adam was alone.
- God knew there was no real fit for him – no helper.

Adam:
- Made in the image of God.
- The “Brawn” of Creation.
- Let’s be honest, he probably didn’t know he was alone.
- Adam was preoccupied while the best part of creation was being purposed.
Genesis 2:19...
19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was
its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field.
2. God’s purpose for woman began from man.

Genesis 2:21...
20 ...But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
THE GARDEN OF EDEN...

God’s master-planned Garden Community...

Master-provisioned Home
- Contained every pleasant and tasty tree
- Contained the Tree of Life
- But also, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil
- Climate-controlled
- Man’s first perfect, beautiful and fruitful home
- As good as the garden was – it wasn’t good enough – yet!
The Garden of Eden was God’s:
- First operating room
- First surgery ever done – done by God.

The Garden of Eden became a place of perfect relationship:

- 2 Hebrew words
1) Helper = “Ezer” – “ideal partner" - Helper = not subservient

2) Fit = “Kenegdow” – “complementary, not above or below” - Fit = just right for him

Woman:
- The “Beauty” of Creation
GotQuestions.org said this...
“The Bible is unique in its depiction of women’s valued status as a complementary companion. No other ancient text from the Middle East offers commentary on the creation of women. It is in the Bible that we learn of the important role women have had since the beginning of human existence. Both man and woman were made in God’s image, according to Genesis 1:27, 'So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.'"
3. God’s purpose for marriage began with a perfect setting and a perfect union.

Genesis 2:23-25...
23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Gotquestions.org says...
Sex, whether it’s sex for procreation or sex for pleasure, is a gift from God to the marital union. The feelings of sexual longings and pleasure during sex were created by God, and God created marriage to fulfill those longings and experience that pleasure. We must not forget that God fashioned us for sex and created the emotions to go with it; pleasure was intended. We shouldn’t let Satan and his lies keep us from enjoying our spouses or fall into the counterfeit sexual pleasures that the world offers outside of marriage. God’s pleasure is real and satisfying; Satan’s counterfeit is empty and destructive.
What is TRUTH about marriage?

Paul hits marriage hard in Ephesians 5:25-33...
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Marriage is NOT...
- living together for a certain number of years and then assuming you are married. This is not true anywhere in the US.
- The Bible speaks nowhere of common law marriage.

Marriage is NOT...
- between two same-sex people.
- The Hebrew word for “wife” is gender-specific and only means a woman.
- The Supreme Court may have legalized gay marriage, but God has not.

Marriage is NOT...
- Until I don’t feel like it anymore.
- It’s intended for a lifetime.
- It’s what “one flesh” is talking about.
- It’s til death do us part.

How did Jesus answer the Pharisees about divorce:

Matthew 19:6...
So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
