CHAPEL ROCK
“Parallel Worlds” is our sermon series which examines the parables of Jesus in Luke’s gospel. During this series we are going to be learning the purpose of Jesus’ parables is to reveal truth to those with eyes to see and conceal truth from the spiritually blind. In our next to last message in this series, Senior Associate Pastor Fred Rodkey brings the message from Luke 15:11-24, "Coming Home."

Series: Parallel Worlds
Sermon: “Coming Home”
> Luke 15:11-24
It is important to. . .

Realize you are a sinner.
> Romans 3:23 - "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
> Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

“Came to his senses” = Came to himself

> Psalm 51:4 - "Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge."
> 1 John 2:1 - 2 - "My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world."
> 1 John 2:15 - "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them."
It is important to. . .

Repent of your sins.
The lost son planned to “earn his way”.

Do we call sin, “sin”? Not often.

> Acts 2:38 - "Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Be specific.
Be sorrowful.
Be humble.
It is important to. . .

Receive forgiveness from God (the Father).
God is:
~ Compassionate
~ Forgiving
~ Celebrating — over the “one”: You!

> Luke 15:7 - "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."
> Luke 15:24 - "For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So, they began to celebrate."
> Ephesians 2:1-5 - "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved."
