ECC-Evangelical Covenant Church
In the Beginning: The Gospel in Advance
In Luke 24, right after his resurrection, Jesus meets two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They do not recognize Jesus and have not grasped what God has done in and through his suffering and death, to say nothing of his resurrection. Jesus then explains to them how all through Scripture, this has been God's plan. By doing so, Jesus has given us a new way to read Scripture--in light of his own life, death, and resurrection. Join us as we walk through the first 11 chapters of Genesis and ask how these passages point us to Christ. We worship together each Sunday morning at 10:30am on YouTube, on our Worship page (ecclife.net/worship), or in person.

Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
Pastor Stacey Littlefield
Write your main take away from this week's sermon below:
A question to ponder.
In what ways do we divide off from one another today? Be specific.

How do you think God feels or thinks about our divisions?
A question to ponder.
Read 1 Corinthians 12.12-26. Here, the Apostle Paul speaks to issues of division in the church. What does Paul think God wants of his Church? How might God's desire for his Church (and churches) impact how we live our lives in society? How can the unifying intentions of God within the community of Christ speak to the divisions in society?
Question to poinder.
Was there anything you heard in today's message that was new to you? Concerned you? Or surprised you?

Above: the chiastic structure of Genesis 11:1-9, with all mirroring verses drawing attention to the center: 11:5a.

Prayer for the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost
O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
