People want to know about the “weird” Bible verses, especially in the Old Testament – the ones against mixing fabrics and eating shellfish. Do we not take such verses seriously? In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus invites us to see all Scripture as fulfilled and interpreted through Him.

Today’s question: There are critics of the church who say that Christians cherry pick verses? If you grew up in church, you have heard lots of different Bible stories:
- Adam, Eve, and a talking snake,
- Noah and the ark
- Moses in a basket
- Jonah and a whale
hermeneutics,” which means “how you read and interpret the Bible.”

We can tend to read the Bible in different ways.

- Security Camera Footage
- Inspirational Sayings
- Moral Handbook

How To Read the Bible ...

1. The context of the Bible matters.

Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. Leviticus 19:19
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. Deuteronomy 22:11

This doesn’t make any sense until you consider what the high priest of Israel was to wear.

2. The Bible has a main focus.
They missed the main theme! We must read the Bible through Jesus.

But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales—whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water—you are to regard as unclean. Leviticus 11:10
Jesus says, “You can have a great diet and a rotten heart. The principle wasn’t just dietary restrictions, but a clean heart. I’m going to keep the principle but change the application.”

"I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17
On the cross, Jesus assembled salvation for us. He brought the meaning of the Bible into clear focus. He fulfilled God’s law ... FOR US! We have salvation through Jesus. We read the Bible through Jesus! Jesus is the focal point of the Bible ... and He is the focal point of our lives!
