You are Welcome here!! We are so glad you are joining us for worship.
“Nothing can be more consoling to the [people] of God, than the conviction that the Lord who made the world governs the world; and that every event, great and small, prosperous and adverse, is under the absolute disposal of Him who doth all things well, and who regulates all things for the good of his people.” – Jerry Bridges
“What is good? Good is what God approves. We may ask then, why is what God approves good? We must answer, “Because He approves it.” That is to say, there is no higher standard of goodness than God’s own character and His approval of whatever is consistent with that character.” – Wayne Grudem
“To question the goodness of God is, in essence, to imply that man is more concerned about goodness than is God… To suggest that man is kinder than God is to subvert…the very nature of God… It is to deny God; and this is precisely the thrust of the temptation to question the goodness of God.” – Philip Hughes
1. The goodness of God defined
a. In His character (Psalm 119:68). “God is morally excellent, extraordinarily beautiful, deeply glad and extravagantly bountiful.” “God is the original definition of good. He is good in and of Himself. For us, goodness is an added quality Mark 10:18). But it comes naturally for Him. God is not just the greatest of beings; He is the Best.”
b. Through His actions (Psalm 119:68).
2. The goodness of God revealed
a. Natural goodness
b. Gracious deliverance
- God rescues those who are looking for soul satisfaction (Psalm 107:4-9)
- God rescues the rebels who turn to Him (Psalm 107:10-16)
- God helps fools who recognize and respond to Him (Psalm 107:17-22)
- God delivers those who suffer calamity (Psalm 107:23-32)
3. The goodness of God questioned (What to do when you question God’s goodness)
a. Understand you are not the only one (Psalm 4:6)
b. Challenge your perception (Jeremiah 17:9)
c. Remember your place (Psalm 115:3; 131:1-3)
d. Run to Jesus (Hebrews 4:15) “There is not a single thing that Jesus cannot change, control or conquer because He is the living Lord.” – Franklin Graham
e. Accept and cooperate with God’s purposes (Romans 8:28-30)
“Trusting God completely means having faith that He knows what is best for your life. You expect Him to keep His promises, help you with problems and do the impossible when necessary.” – Rick Warren

“God is God. He knows what he is doing. When you can’t trace his hand, trust his heart.” – Max Lucado
