John's Calling

It was a calling that God had placed upon John over 700 years before he was even born. A calling prophesied to in Isaiah, chapter 40. Luke references it in chapter three. According to the words spoken by the prophet Isaiah, John’s calling from God was that he would be a FORERUNNER who would make ready the coming of the Lord himself. A message that was primarily centered on the Gospel - which Luke summarizes for us in verse 3 this way, “repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
John's Message

It was focused on the gospel - but more specifically, he confronted those who were listening regarding their spiritual standing before God. John also tried to prepare the hearts of those who came to listen to him for Jesus’ coming was by confronting them regarding their possible future (it's either damnation or salvation).
The Message has a Solution

That solution is REPENTANCE. There is NO gospel preaching without the preaching of repentance. Repentance means to make a change/to turn away. It does not simply mean to have remorse or regret. Without change, there is no repentance. True repenters turn to Christ. True repenters also bear fruit. If someone has changed course in their life by turning away from sin and turning toward Christ, fruit should be a natural byproduct.
