Jesus the Philosopher: Answers for Life
Luke 11:1-4, January 13 & 16, 2022
Group Discussion: What did you think of the story of Bob the insurance salesman? Do you have something that you’re praying about that God might use in your life in an extraordinary way?
Read out loud: Luke 11:1-4,
MITSVAH is a direction I dedicate myself to, not a destination at which I arrive.
Therefore, I achieve MITSVAH by speaking to the Father about:
#1. His Person, “Father…”
What are the challenges of thinking of God as your father? Jesus told Mary and Joseph that He was in His Father’s house when he was with the Rabbi’s at the Jerusalem Temple. Jesus was comfortable with being in God’s presence 24 hours a day. Do you continually consider yourself in the Father’s presence 24 hours a day and how does that impact or not impact you? What is a perfect father like?
#2. His Program, “Hallowed be Your name…”
God’s number 1 program is to get you to the point where you appreciate His glory, greatness and goodness. When you pray do you acknowledge the sacredness of God’s name, glory, greatness and goodness?
#3. His Purpose, “Your Kingdom come…”
Serving inside GateWay Church is a part of Kingdom work, do you consider deeply enough that you’re serving God at GateWay? Serving outside of GateWay is a second part of Kingdom work, do you consider deeply enough that you’re serving God when you love your non-believing neighbor?
#4. His Provision, “Give us each day our daily bread…”
What to you is daily bread? What is a need daily for you and what is a luxury? If you were going to eliminate one luxury in your life what would it be? Does this discussion create guilt in your mind? In the Old Testament abundance is a blessing from the Lord, have we turned the Bible inside out by feeling guilty instead of grateful?
#5. His Pardon, “And forgive us our sins, For we ourselves also forgive
everyone who is indebted to us.” Not only that, our forgiveness is instantaneous and complete because He forgives “all” our unrighteousness. How important must I and my connection to God be to Him for Him to do this for me? God would rather forgive and forget my sin than break His relationship with me!
#6. His Protection, “And lead us not into temptation…”
What’s one temptation your trying to avoid these days?
Family Time: Use this with your kids: If you’re on your way to Disneyland is it a temptation to stop at Kmart parking lot and ride fair rides instead? If you’re on your way to a week in San Diego is it a temptation to stop in Bakersfield? Ask your kids to come up with some other examples? Jesus gives us eternal life and tries to help us understand how much greater heaven will be than earth.
