ECC-Evangelical Covenant Church
The Word Made Flesh: Where Heaven and Earth Converge
In John 1, "the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us". After that, he lived the most important life ever lived, taught us about the nature of "eternal" and "abundant" life, died the most important death, and rose from the dead. What does it all mean for us today? Join us for a sermon series on the Gospel of John as we find out together. We worship together each Sunday morning at 10:30am on Facebook, YouTube, or in person.

Word Made Flesh: Where Heaven and Earth Converge
January 16, 2022
Second Sunday after the Epiphany
Pastor Stacey Littlefield
Write your main take away from this week's sermon below:
A question to ponder.
What is zeal to you? When is it good? When is it bad? Can you think of examples?
A question to ponder.
Did anything from the message today surprise you? Was anything in the context surrounding the passage new to you? How does what you heard today compare to other sermons you may have heard about Jesus' actions in the temple?
A question to ponder.
Here's a dicey question: If Jesus were to "cleanse the temple" of the American Church, what tables would he turn over? What would he drive out from among us?
Bonus activity.
Read the account of Jesus "cleansing the temple" in the other three gospels and compare them with one another and with John's version. What do you notice? How are they different from one another?

Notice, especially, that only in John does Jesus refer to the temple as "My Father's house..." Why do you think that is?See Matthew 21.12-17; Mark 11.15-19; Luke 19.45-48)

The Temple

Second Sunday after the Epiphany
Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and forever. Amen.
