Power, Love, Self-Discipline
2 Timothy 1:3-7
Pastor Jerry Koller
Paul begins by letting Timothy know he is praying for him night and day.
It was Spurgeon who once told his students, “Do not enter the ministry if you can help it.”
Paul knew Timothy faced many over the four years he served the church at Ephesus, which is why he said,
Sincere means open and genuine. It is something that is identifiable.
This is not the first time Paul discussed Timothy’s giftedness, for he addressed it in his first letter.
Timidity means a lack of courage or confidence.
· The ESV says we are given a spirit not of fear.
· In literature outside the New Testament, the word “timidity” can be translated fearfulness or cowardice.
This power is not of human origin or strength, for it is power from on high.
Timothy was also given the spirit of love.
Safeguarding against hindrances that stop the flow of love in his life is not something that is impossible for he has been given a spirit of self-discipline.
· Another translation uses the term self-control.
1. Sincere faith means open and genuine.
· It is something that is identifiable.
· It is not something vague or hidden.
· It is genuine and visible.
What kind of fruit are you producing?
2. If you truly are in Christ, you been given a spirit of power to carry out God’s calling in your lives.
Are you carrying out His calling in your life?
3. If you truly are in Christ, you been given a spirit of love.
· It has been poured into your hearts by the Holy Spirit.
Are you removing barriers that hinder its flow?
4. If you truly are in Christ, you have been given a spirit of self-discipline. This will allow you to control or curb anything that may hinder the flow of love in you.

Summer Camp Fundraiser
Expand
We are hosting a "take an envelope" fundraiser to support our future campers. There is a tree outside the sanctuary which has numbered envelopes. If you'd like to participate, then the number on the envelope that you pick is the amount of money you would like to donate. [Example: If you take the number 6, then you'll donate $6.] You can take as many envelopes as you'd like. And if all the envelopes are taken, then we will raise $5500 for future campers!! This would enable many of our students to bring a friend with them to camp - what an exciting way to possibly introduce someone to Jesus for the first time! Envelopes can be dropped in the offering bucket or mailed back to church. For questions, please contact Rob Zantello or the church office.
Annual Meeting: 1/16/2022
Expand
Our Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 16, immediately following the morning worship service. 2022 budget information will be emailed to all members by December 15. If you do not receive this via email, please let Kim know. Pastor Jerry is also putting together an Annual Report that will cover all ministries which will be emailed as well. We will not have a potluck after the meeting.
1. Approval of the 2022 budget
2. Affirmation of the 2022 Elder Ministry Team (which is the same as 2021): Jason Avery, Brian Bocock, Steve Follman, Janette Hendrix, and Rob Zantello
3. Approval of proposed By-Laws changes
For questions or more information, please contact the church office.
New Women’s Study Begins: 1/12
Expand
All ladies are invited to join a new Bible study beginning on January 12. The study will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:30 PM. Depending on what participants want to do, it will be in-person, online, or a hybrid of both. This group will be doing the study Elijah by Priscilla Shirer. Join this 7-session journey through the life and times of the prophet Elijah to discover how the fire on Mount Carmel was forged in the valley of famine. And how the emboldened, fiery faith you desire is being fashioned by God in your life right now. To sign-up or for questions, contact Tracy Marshall or the church office.
