What was your best or worst moment from the past few weeks?
Begin your study with prayer
Pause for a few minutes to quiet your heart and mind. Then ask God for insight and direction as you study and reflect on this week’s lesson.
Introduction to this Week’s Lesson
Each week during this series, we’ll focus on one of the four names assigned to the Messiah as listed in Isaiah 9:6. This week we’ll explore God as the Wonderful Counselor.

Bible Study and Group Discussion

 Read Isaiah 9:1-7
1. What are ways people walk in darkness?
2. How have you experienced darkness?
3. As you consider the deep darkness in the world, which areas break your heart the most? Pause and pray over these areas.
4. God declares that a light will shine (vs. 2), which was meant to bring Israel hope during times of darkness. What does it mean to have hope?
5. Has there ever been a time you lost hope? Describe what that was like.
6. How does the promise of Jesus’ coming bring you hope?
7. How does this passage demonstrate both the wisdom and care of Jesus?
8. When have you received counsel from Jesus?
9. In what ways have you been cared for by Jesus?
10. How do you still need Him to care for you?
11. What do you think Jesus wanted the disciples to learn from this miracle?
12. What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor?
Spiritual Practice
A spiritual practice is training for the soul. If you build these into your everyday life, you’re sure to strengthen your relationship with God.

Each day this week, thank God for being your Wonderful Counselor. Then ask Him to guide and care for you.
Memory Verse
For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (NLT)
