David: is the story of the greatest King who served the true King.
Three Killer Giants

The three worst times to make decisions are when you’re afraid, angry and alone.
Killer Giant #1: When you make a decision when you’re afraid, you can’t see anything but hurt.
Fear leads to isolation, and isolation leads to us thinking and acting like everyone is out to get us.
Killer Giant #2: When you make a decision when you’re angry, you don’t care who you hurt.

Often the people we direct our anger at first, are the ones we love.
We all need a reminder that God is with us, so we don’t react like God is against us.
Killer Giant #3: When you make a decision alone, you don’t think of who it could hurt.
When we make decisions alone, it would be naive to think the consequences will affect us alone.
Killer Giant #1: When you make a decision when you’re afraid, you can’t see anything but hurt.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Killer Giant #2: When you make a decision when you’re angry, you don’t care who you hurt.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

Killer Giant #3: When you make a decision alone, you don’t think of who it could hurt.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

1) There is a lot of drama in this section of David’s story. (Read 1 Samuel 18:12-16; 28-29; 1 Samuel 20:30-33; 1 Samuel 21:1-3, 7-9; 1 Samuel 22:6-23.)
a. Which part shocks you the most?
b. Which part is the most confusing -- what questions do you have about it?

2) God did not keep David from this drama or rescue him out of it. However, He did remain present with Him through it. And He worked on David in the midst of it.
a. Why do you think God chose this path for David?
b. What do you think God was doing in David’s life during these experiences?
c. What do we learn about God’s character and His ways from this part of David’s story?

3) Which of these emotions are you currently experiencing or more likely to experience?
a. Feeling afraid of some things happening or potentially happening in your life or the world around you?
b. Feeling angry at how things are playing out for you, angry at others in your life, or even angry at God?
c. Feeling alone -- lonely, unsupported, let down or like no one can relate to what you are going through?

4) What safeguards have you put in place to help you avoid making bad decisions when you are in the midst of fear, anger or loneliness?

5) Read Psalm 23. How does this passage hit you differently when you have considered the drama-filled life David endured before becoming King?

6) Spend some time considering any difficult situations, drama-filled seasons, or emotional moments from your own life. Ask God to review your attitude, reactions, and decisions during those times. Ask Him to teach you, mature you, forgive you and prepare you better for the future. Most of all, praise him that He is always with us and always for us. Share with your group any revelations you may have.
