The Crossing
Discovering a God Who is With Us! | Behind the Curtain Part 2
Long before Jesus set foot on our planet, before He ever took on human form, He had a purpose, personality, and presence that was prophesied in the Bible. As we look toward the Christmas season, we go behind the curtain to learn who Jesus really was.

The story of Jesus’ birth didn’t happen by accident. Behind the curtain there were infinite preparations for this story right up to the moment it took center stage.

First was prophecy. It starts in the book of Genesis at the beginning of time. Genesis was written by Moses about 1440 years before the birth of Jesus, but the events he records happened hundreds even thousands of years later.

A solution is coming to the most basic human problem - sin. That solution will be a man.

He would come from Abraham but would be for everyone.

He would be a descendent of Judah, one of the 12 sons of Jacob, Abraham’s great grandson. About 1440 BC

A virgin will conceive. He will be called “God with us.” 725 BC

He will reign as king among other titles.

He would be born in Bethlehem. 725BC

He would be called out of Egypt. 720BC.

He would be from the family of David the King. 600BC.

He would have someone come before Him to announce Him. 460BC.

400 years of silence follows these prophecies. Silence can make us wonder if it is really true, but that silence was creating the perfect vacuum that could only be filled by Jesus.

Scripture tells us that all of that prophecy was what set up this incredible event. Not only that, but we are a part of the story! It’s a story so big, so deep, so wide, that the entire human race can fit on the stage and play a part of the production!

People in our society are grasping at straws for something to trust in, and they’re having a hard time finding a place for it. All this set up from behind the curtain bolsters our faith and gives us evidence for trust.

Faith exists, but the question is whether that faith is directed to the right person. It’s not how much faith you have, it’s who your faith is in.

While other stories that have captured our imaginations are not real, this one is - a real Bethlehem with a real star, and a real baby. That newborn baby was really God in the flesh and He came to die on a real Roman cross for our very real sins.
