Finding Joy in Uncertain Times—October 10
[Tim Haring]
Last week, Philippians chapter 1 was discussed.
We can have joy because of the gospel:
• We have peace with and from God
• We are a part of a community
• We have a promise from God
• We have a purpose for living: Christ
Today's Takeaway | Our relationships can be a source of great joy
We will experience joy:
• When we understand how wonderful our relationship with God is
The “if” clauses, being translations of first-class conditions in Greek, speak of certainties.
– L.P. Lightner

Paul said:
• We are encouraged by Christ
• We are comforted by God’s love
• We enjoy a connection with Holy Spirit
• We have compassion within our hearts
We will experience joy:
• When we understand how wonderful our relationship with God is
• When we pursue unity with others
Paul wrote, “Make my joy complete by being..."
• United in mind
• United in love
• United in spirit (same feelings)
• United in purpose
We will experience joy:
• When we understand how wonderful our relationship with God is
• When we pursue unity with others
• When we view ourselves as being 'under' others
Instead of fixing your eyes on those points in which you excel, fix them on those in which your neighbor excels you.
- Jamieson
We will experience joy:
• When we understand how wonderful our relationship with God is
• When we pursue unity with others
• When we view ourselves as being 'under' others
• When we are unselfish in meeting the needs of others
Any concerns of others were to become the concerns of all!
- Melick

We will experience joy:
• When we understand how wonderful our relationship with God is
• When we pursue unity with others
• When we view ourselves as being 'under' others
• When we are unselfish in meeting the needs of others
• When we use the example of Jesus
He laid aside the form of God. In so doing, He did not divest Himself of His divine nature. The change was a change of state: the form of a servant for the form of God.
- Vincent
