There are a lot of things in life where going through discomfort leads to better things.

Perhaps in no other area of life does the blessing of pain hold true than in the spiritual.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4).
How can a person be blessed if they are grieving?

“Mourn” is a present active verb, which means you do something active with the pain.

King David tried to be passive with his pain…When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long (Psalm 32:3).
Repression & Suppression = REGRESSION (Rick Warren)

Lies… Feeling sad or mad is bad.
Feeling nothing is better than feeling pain.

Truths…You can’t bury pain.
You can’t run from pain.
Confession & Expression = PROGRESSION (Rick Warren)

Then I acknowledged by sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin (Psalm 32:5).
A Blessed life is one that sees the correlation between blessedness & mourning.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be COMFORTED (Matthew 5:4).

Comforted = “parakaleo”…”para” means alongside…”kaleo” means to summon
God meets you in your mourning.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
God mourns with you in your mourning. He knows what mourning is – what you are going through and identifies with you.
God ministers to you in your mourning. This often through His people. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15).

God matures you through your mourning. He is very much in the business of bringing purpose out of pain.
One of the best indicators of maturing spiritually is entering into the pain of others. You are never more like your Savior than when you choose to do so.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they WILL BE comforted.

That’s future. The comforter is in us now, but even more is coming. Jesus is coming back, and when He does…He will wipe away every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death, or MOURNING, or crying or pain (Rev. 21:4).
