Conversation Starter
Who was God to you when you were growing up?
Begin your study with prayer
Pause for a few minutes to quiet your heart and mind. Then ask God for insight and direction as you study and reflect on this week’s lesson.
Bible Study and Group Discussion
Read Luke 5:17-32.
1. Upon seeing the faith of the friends, Jesus forgave and then healed the paralyzed man. How does Jesus connect faith and the power of God?
2. Why did the Pharisees and teachers of the law have so much trouble believing in Jesus?
3. Are you more skeptical like the Pharisees, curious like the crowd, or full of faith like the friends? Why is that?
4. Describe a time you either experienced or witnessed the power of God. What impact did that have on your life?
5. Describe a time you experienced forgiveness.
6. What are some of your spiritual, emotional or physical needs? Who will pray with you over these things?
7. How does this passage either challenge or further develop your understanding of Jesus?
8. What questions does this passage raise for you?
9. What’s one way you could express your faith like the friends of the paralyzed man this week?
10. Who needs to hear about God’s power to heal and forgive? Don’t wait. Go tell them.
11. What’s your biggest takeaway from this week’s lesson?

Spiritual Practice

A spiritual practice is like training for the soul. If you build these into your every-day life, you’re sure to strengthen your relationship with God.
The Bible uses dozens of names, titles and metaphors to describe God and help us know who He truly is. This week, you’re invited to experience God in all His richness and beauty by visiting brookwoodchurch.org/diggingdeeper. We pray you’re filled with a sense of awe as you get lost in the wonder of God.

Memory Verse
“So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” Luke 5:24 (NLT)
