07.18.21_ Jesus came to recreate us, to give us brand new hearts that are not petrified by our sin. We cannot make ourselves pure of heart and even if we could, it would not be pure enough. Those who mourn over their sin, the impurity of their hearts, find comfort in Christ and in Christ alone because through faith Jesus Christ, our sins are washed away and Jesus’ purity is given to us. Romans 4:5 (CSB) “But to the one who does not work, but believes on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness.” When you trust in Christ you receive a brand new heart, a heart made alive by Christ’s purity. Being pure in heart results in seeking after the Lord, striving toward undivided devotion and a single-minded pursuit of the Lord. Because Jesus has made us pure in heart, He offers the blessing, “Blessed are the pure in heart.” The pure in heart will see God now because their vision is no longer clouded by unconfessed sin, by the fear of man, by self-centeredness, by whatever impurity that formerly ruled their lives. The invisible God has been manifest and revealed fully in Jesus Christ. Jesus tells Philip, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” The pure in heart will see Him who is invisible now as a foretaste, and one day, will see Jesus in all his glory. Note - Seeing God is not a reward based on the merit of our own efforts towards purity of heart. We are not being told that if we are pure enough, if we do enough right things, that we will be rewarded with seeing God. We are being told that we will have a reward because Jesus Christ gave us His purity.
