"Summer Playlist" has been a recent tradition for the GTWY Family. A treasure from ancient Hebrew followers of God, the Psalms have taught multiple generations of Jesus followers how to pray. We can still glean much from those who have gone before us, in matters of prayer and worship. The Psalms are like a prayer book...set to music...that gives us a language adequate for responding to the God who speaks to us. This Summer, we will explore Psalm 119, Psalm 2, and Psalm 19 together. Let's invite our Creator...to continue His conversation with us...through this Summer Playlist. Consider this prayer, from Psalm 139, as a good place to begin: "Investigate my life, O God, find everything out about me;Cross examine & test me, get a clear picture of what I'm about; See for yourself whether I've done anything wrong—then guide me on the road to eternal life." [Psalm 139:23-24 MSG]

One of the marks of a Disciple: Obey God's Word Completely
Psalms devotes to God's Word:
Psalm 1, 19, 119
Synonyms for God's Word in Psalm 119:
Instructions: 25
Laws: 23
Commandments: 20
Decrees: 22
Commands: 23
Regulations: 20
Word: 27
Promises: 15

Guidance:
I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me! (19) I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws. (59) You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands. (73) I have refused to walk on any evil path, so that I may remain obedient to your word. (101) Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. (105) Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. (133) Give me a helping hand, for I have chosen to follow your commandments. (173)

Wisdom:
Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds. (27) Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. (29) Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. (34) Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions. (136)

Joy:
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.(1-2) I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. (14) I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. (16) I am always overwhelmed with a desire for your regulations. (20) Your laws please me; they give me wise advice. (20) Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.(35)

Pain:
“I weep with sorrow; encourage me by your word. (28) Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. (50) My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees. (71) I am worn out waiting for your rescue, but I have put my hope in your word. My eyes are straining to see your promises come true. When will you comfort me? (81-82) If your instructions hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in my misery.(92) My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions.(109)

Sin:
“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. (9) I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.(11) Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good. (39 )I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word. (67)”

Freedom:
“I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments. (45)”

Song:
“I Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived. (54) Your promises have been thoroughly tested; that is why I love them so much. (140)”

Unity:
“Let me be united with all who fear you, with those who know your laws.(79)”

Protection:
“My eyes strain to see your rescue, to see the truth of your promise fulfilled. (123) Look upon my suffering and rescue me, for I have not forgotten your instructions. (153) Powerful people harass me without cause, but my heart trembles only at your word. (161) I long for your rescue, Lord, so I have obeyed your commands. (166) O Lord, I have longed for your rescue, and your instructions are my delight. (174)”

Help:
“I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands. (176)”
“I reflect at night on who you are, O Lord; therefore, I obey your instructions. (55) I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations. (62) Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long. (97) I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in your words. I stay awake through the night, thinking about your promise.
(147-148) I will praise you seven times a day because all your regulations are just. (164)”

Once you see the power of God’s word – you can’t unsee it.
Personal Challenge:
*Read 8 verses a day over the next 22 days
*Create your own system for taking notes
*What does it say about God's Word?
*What does it say about the human condition?
*How is truth described?
*How does Satan try & twist it?
