Welcome to Southern Hills!

We are so glad you are with us today! God has a purpose just for you. We'd love to connect with you today. Whether you need prayer, would like to know more about our faith family, or want to begin volunteering with one of our amazing ministries, visit for all your next steps.
Are these just idle words to you- words without purpose or effect- or are they your life?

Our physical life depends on God’s Word.

Hebrews 1:2b-3a (GNT);

[Jesus] is the one through whom God created the universe… sustaining the universe with his powerful word.
Our spiritual life begins by his word.
1 Peter 1:23 (NLT),

For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
James 1:18 (NIV),

He chose to give us birth through the word of truth.
We continue living by His Word.
Matthew 4:4 (NLT),

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT),

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
His Word enlightens our inner being- our hearts and minds.
Psalm 119:130 (NET),

Your instructions are a doorway through which light shines.
His Word works in our hearts to accomplish God’s purpose in our lives.
Isaiah 55:10-11 (MESS),

Just as rain and snow descend from the skies and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth, doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry, so will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.
Ps. 119:28,

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.
He guides us through life with his word.
Ps. 119: 105,

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
His Word helps to keep us on the right God-honoring path in life.
Ps. 119:11,

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
God’s Word is our source of absolute truth.

John 17:17 (NASB),

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

For many years now, truth has been an ever moving, ever changing target in our culture.

The “Truth Streetlight Effect”- people search for truth not only where it’s easiest, but also where they WANT to look.
Many Christians do not want to accept what the Bible says is truth.
Many Christians gullibly accept what the Bible says is NOT truth.

Personal opinion has become the supreme authority.

“Hermeneutics” – the study of principles of interpretation.

The real problem is when we know what the Bible says, but we don’t LIKE what it says.

Many Christians disregard true biblical principles of love and wisdom.

Unbelievers don’t judge Christianity by the Bible, but by all they see and hear from us.
Amos 7:7-8 (NIV);

“This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. And the Lord asked me, ‘What do you see, Amos?’ ‘A plumb line,’ I replied. Then the Lord said, ‘Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.’”

God’s Word is the plumb line- and it is not subject to whims and opinions.
