CUW OUTDOOR WORSHIP
CUW Outdoor Amphitheater June 3, 2021 During these summer worship services we will “Major in the Minors.” The Minor Prophets of the Old Testament are not as well known as most of the 66 books of Scripture. These 12 works are equally important for the Christian walk. They serve as a wake-up call for us to see ourselves in spiritual needs and see the Lord as the one who rescues.

THE WELCOME

THE OPENING SONG
How Deep The Father’s Love For Us
Verse 1:
How deep the Father's love for us?
How vast beyond all measure?
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss?
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Verse 2:
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

Verse 3:
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Tag:
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

THE INVOCATION & CALL TO WORSHIP
(from Hebrews 1)
P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
P: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways,
C: God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
P: But in these last days,
C: He has spoken to us by his son,
P: whom he appointed the heir of all things,
C: through whom he created the world.
P: He is the radiance of the glory of God
C: and the exact imprint of his nature.
P: and he upholds the universe
C: with his power.”
THE CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION
P: People of God, throughout time and space, have encountered the same problems and situations: broken by sin, alienated from the Father, and centered on ourselves. God has sent His prophets and His word to call the world to repentance. By faith, we are the ones who respond now:

C: Heavenly Father, You sent your prophets to draw attention to our brokenness. You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to heal us. Yet we complain about the hardness of His teachings. We prefer our brokenness to His wholeness. We fear the change promised in ‘new life.’ By the gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to hear Your message, trust Your plan, and live Your bold mission.

P: Jesus has come not to abolish, but to fulfill all Scripture, and He has done all things necessary for our salvation. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven and redeemed.

C: Amen
THE PRAYER OF THE DAY
P: Gracious Lord as the prophets guided, rebuked and taught your people, shape us with the truth of your word to see our sin and know our savior. In Jesus name
C: Amen.
SERMON SONG

O Come To The Altar
Verse 1:
Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling

Chorus:
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Verse 2:
Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

Chorus:
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Bridge:
Oh, what a Savior
Isn't He wonderful?
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen
Bow down before Him
For He is Lord of all
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen
Oh what a Savior
Isn't He wonderful?
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen
Bow down before Him
For He is Lord of all
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen

Chorus:
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Ending:
Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you found

THE MESSAGE

THE OFFERING

THE RESPONSIVE PRAYER
P: Gracious Lord, as the Israelites failed to follow you, so we to walk down the paths we choose instead of your path of righteous. Forgive us for our failures and faults.
C: Lord, have mercy.

P: We pray for our world, the earth on which You once walked, and all that dwell upon it. Bless us with all things needful for our lives that we may enjoy this place which is now our home.
C: Lord, have mercy.

P: We pray for the Church, which is our spiritual home. Bless the leaders and the people with a full measure of faithfulness that we may live out our callings in this world.
C: Lord, have mercy.

P: As Amos called the people to repentance and reminded them of the Lord’s rescuing grace, so give us ears to hear Your Word of mercy and hearts to embrace it.
C: Lord, have mercy.

P: We pray for those with special needs, whose earthly journeys are challenging or difficult. Especially we remember the sick, the shut-in, and those known to each of us who are in need of prayer.
C: Lord, have mercy.

P: Finally, Lord Jesus, we thank You for the faithful witness of those no longer with us here on earth who rejoice in Your eternal presence. May we be inspired by their faithful witness and seek to serve You in love all of our days. In Your name we pray…

C: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

THE BENEDICTION
(based on Zephaniah 3:17)
P: The Lord your God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; God will rejoice over you with gladness; God will quiet you with his love; God will exult over you with loud singing.

C: Amen.
THE CLOSING SONG
I Have This Hope

Verse 1:
As I walk this great unknown
Questions come and questions go
Was there purpose for the pain?
Did I cry these tears in vain?

Verse 2:
I don't want to live in fear
I want to trust that You are near
Trust Your grace can be seen
In both triumph and tragedy

Chorus:
I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You're with me and You won't let go

Verse 3:
But sometimes my faith feels thin
Like the night will never end
Will You catch every tear
Or will You just leave me here?

Chorus:
But I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You're with me and You won't let go
Yes, I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You're with me and You won't let go

Bridge:
So, whatever happens I will not be afraid
Cause You are closer than this breath that I take
You calm the storm when I hear You call my name
I still believe that one day I'll see Your face

Chorus:
I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You're with me
I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You're with me and You won't let go

Ending:
In the flood or the fire
You're with me and You won't let go
In the flood or the fire
You're with me and You won't let go
