Wayne Grudem: “Hell is a place of eternal conscious punishment for the wicked.”
· Unending Punishment (Dan 12:2–3; Matt 25:41-6)
· Personal Punishment
Heresy #1 - Universalism is the view that in the end God will reconcile all people to himself through Christ.
· How could a loving God send good people to hell?
o None of us are good people.
Romans 3:10–12 (ESV)
10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”
o God is more than love.
Isaiah 6:3 (ESV)
3 And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
Psalm 89:14 (ESV)
14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
o God’s love and wrath are never at odds with one another.
Romans 5:8 (ESV)
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Heresy #2- Annihilationism — is the belief that unbelievers will not experience an eternity of suffering in hell but will instead be “extinguished” after death.
How is it fair that a short life of sin deserves an eternity of punishment in hell?
o Hell is fair because you sin against God.
o How you view hell will affect your view of God.

Hell is a motive for Sanctification

Hell is a motivation for Salivation

Hell is eternal but hell is escapable.
