As we meet together each week, we recognise in the Call To Worship. God, through his word and Spirit, invites us into his presence and calls us into his life and mission.

Call to Worship
9 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let your glory be over all the earth.
Psalm 57:9-11 (NIV11)

Father God, we are gathered together before you, not for what we can get out of worship, but for what we can give to you, O God, in worship. We acknowledge it is in giving that we receive. And so, we offer up to you the praise of our lips and the obedience of our lives. We offer up to you our whole being as living sacrifices, which is our reasonable worship. May every beat of our heart, every thought of our mind, every act of our will be pleasing and acceptable in your sight. In both word and deed may we give glory to you, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
The songs of invitation orients us to God. It turns our attention to see God as the one that forgives sins, who has compassion on the weary and calls all who are humble in heart to come to Him. Singing has always been a biblical expression of praise, adoration and worship. It is not a ‘warm up’ act before the ‘main event’ of a service. Rather, it is a true expression of praise, thanksgiving, and treasuring of God.

Songs of Invitation

Man Of Sorrows

Verse 1
Man of sorrows Lamb of God
By His own betrayed
The sin of man and wrath of God
Has been on Jesus laid

Verse 2
Silent as He stood accused
Beaten mocked and scorned
Bowing to the Father's will
He took a crown of thorns

Oh that rugged cross my salvation
Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out hallelujah
Praise and honour unto Thee

Verse 3
Sent of heaven God's own Son
To purchase and redeem
And reconcile the very ones
Who nailed Him to that tree

Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood
That my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin
Has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed

Verse 4
See the stone is rolled away
Behold the empty tomb
Hallelujah God be praised
He's risen from the grave

Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)

Verse 1
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see

Verse 2
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone I've been set free
My God my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love amazing grace

Verse 3
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

Verse 4
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

In Scripture, as people find themselves in God’s presence, they sense how far short they fall and become aware of their own guilt and shame. In the same way, we make a confession of sin, both as a community and also silently as individuals. In this, we remember that God is always ready, by his mercy and grace, to forgive us.

Confession Of Sin

Lord God of justice and grace, you are of purer eyes than to look upon sin, we confess that we have all sinned and fallen short of your glory. We have not sought first your kingdom and righteousness. You have revealed your wonderful love to us in Christ and have offered us pardon and salvation in him; but we have turned away.

Have mercy on us, merciful Father. In your Son is our salvation, in your promise is our hope. Give us the Holy Spirit, and in the end receive us into glory, through Jesus Christ, our only Saviour, Amen.
Holy Scripture promises that ‘if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness’
(1 John 1:9)

Receiving Of Grace
3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
Psalm 130:3-4 (NIV11)
Thanksgiving is a right and biblical response to God’s mercy and kindness. Gratitude springs forth from God’s grace.

Prayer of Thanksgiving
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story — those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. Psalm 107:1-3 (NIV11)
Congregational Prayer is an opportunity for us as a church to pray with one voice. In prayer, we recognise our finitude and God’s sovereignty, and we confess our needs before our great God and King. God invites us to pray to him – to cast all of our burdens and anxieties upon him because he cares.

Congregational Prayer
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV11)
Catechisms teach us biblical and theological truths in the form of question and answer.

The New City Catechism Q.4
Q. How and why did God create us?
A. God created us male and female in his own image to know him, love him, live with him, and glorify him. And it is right that we who were created by God should live to his glory.
The Bible teaches us that people no longer have to follow Jewish laws and rituals to become Christian. Christians can now be culturally flexible as they preach Jesus and call people to repentance.

5. Examples of cultural flexibility

Example One: Where there is a big cultural gap

Example Two: Where there is a small cultural gap

After hearing the Word of God read and preached, it is appropriate for us to respond with praise and thanksgiving

Songs of Response

Grace Alone

Verse 1
I was an orphan lost at the fall
Running away when I'd hear you call
But Father you worked your will
I had no righteousness of my own
I had no right to draw near your throne
But Father you loved me still

Chorus 1
And in love before you laid the world's foundation
You predestined to adopt me as your own
You have raised me up so high above my station
I'm a child of God by grace and grace alone

Verse 2
You left your home to seek out the lost
You knew the great and terrible cost
But Jesus your face was set
I worked my fingers down to the bone
But nothing I did could ever atone
But Jesus you paid my debt

Chorus 2
By Your blood I have redemption and salvation
Lord you died that I might reap what you have sown
And you rose that I might be a new creation
I am born again by grace and grace alone

I was in darkness all of my life
I never knew the day from the night
But Spirit you made me see
I swore I knew the way on my own
Head full of rocks a heart made of stone
But Spirit you moved in me

Chorus 3
And at your touch my sleeping spirit was awakened
On my darkened heart the light of Christ has shone
Called into a kingdom that cannot be shaken
Heaven's citizen by grace and grace alone

So I'll stand in faith by grace and grace alone
I will run the race by grace and grace alone
I will slay my sin by grace and grace alone
I will reach the end by grace and grace alone

You Alone

Verse 1
You alone could light the heavens
Speak and form the universe
Every grain and galaxy
Abiding by your word
You alone deserve all glory
In one anthem joyfully raised
Every language every tongue
Resounding in your praise

Every nation needs to know
There's salvation in your name alone
For your kingdom we must go
To all of the earth all of the earth

Verse 2
You alone could ransom sinners
No one else could pay such price
Give for love your perfect life
In humble sacrifice
You alone have conquered darkness
Death no longer wields its sting
Raised in power to reign forever
Jesus King of Kings

Verse 3
You alone restore the broken
Through the weak display your power
Strengthen us to persevere
Equip us for this hour
Christ alone our ceaseless message
Grace and peace our overflow
Surely you are always with us
Jesus we will go

The Lord’s Prayer is Jesus’ instruction to his disciples on how they ought to pray. Here, we discover what it is like to pray God-centred prayers. It teaches us that God is a personal and holy God (our Father…hallowed), he is coming back again (your kingdom come), he provides for all of our needs (daily bread…forgive us our sins…lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil), and that he is sovereign over all.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
Heavenly Father, be pleased to accept and bless all that we have offered to you in worship; and give us grace to show your praise not only with our lips, but in our lives, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NIV11)
