THE SOCIAL OUTCAST - John 4:7-30, 39-42

Do you ever feel like you don’t belong? Are you an outsider in many settings? Do you ever sense that you are a social outcast? Jesus met a lonely, social outcast in John chapter 4 and gave her His plan for acceptance and joy. Her life might be your life. And Jesus’ words to her are words for you.

Questions To Consider

1. In what ways do you feel like an outsider?

2. What does our longing for belonging tell us about God and His plans?

3. What is the living water that Jesus offers (see John 7:37-39)? Why do we need this water? How do we get it?

4. What things have you worshiped in your life? How can you tell what you are worshiping?

5. How does worshiping God bring benefit to our own lives?

6. How can we worship God in truth?

7. What does it mean to worship “in spirit”? How well do you do that? How will you seek to improve?

8. Why should we share the news of life and belonging with other people? How do we go about sharing?

9. What is the primary message that Jesus was communicating to the social outcast through their conversation? How will you respond to this message?
