PRAYER OF GENEROSITY
We pause for a time of generosity since giving is a part of worship. We renounce selfishness and pray God's generosity will shape our lives.

*****

Holy Father, you never fail to be generous. Every good thing comes from your hand. Everything I have, and all that I am, belongs to you. You call me to grow in the Way of Jesus who models self-sacrifice.

Therefore...

I renounce spending everything on myself.
I renounce the false glamor of wealth that chokes your word.
I renounce giving that costs me nothing.

I commit to growing in generosity.
I commit to helping the poor.
I commit to supporting the work of your Church.
I commit to being rich in good deeds.

Open my heart. Open my hands. AMEN.
SCRIPTURE READING
Matthew 5:17-26

21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, e and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister, will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

23 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

25 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.

MESSAGE REFLECTION
Reflect on these questions shortly after today's message. To use today's Scripture and message to connect daily with God, use the Field Guide below.

1) What has today's scripture reading and/or message shown you about God?

2) What has today's scripture reading and/or message shown you about yourself?

3) What practical next step do you need to take after today's message?
FIELD GUIDE
Use these questions for personal or group discussion this week to go deeper into the message and Scripture reading.

1) Reread today's Scripture passage. What stands out to you? What questions do you have about this passage?

2) What's a relationship you would like to see become healthier? Name that relationship to God today in prayer. If you journal, you might write the name or initials and pray daily for this relationship throughout the series.

3) Based on what you heard in the message, what did the word "raca" mean? What's a comparable term today?

4) When it comes to conflict, do you tend more toward unhealthy conflict or avoiding conflict? What might be underneath your response?

5) Jesus says to "leave your gift at the altar" to right a relationship. What does he mean? What could that look like today?

6) What are the Four Whys? How do they help pursue healthy conflict?

7) If you're avoiding a conflict, what's going on in your heart toward that person or situation? How is God inviting you to pursue healthy conflict in that relationship?
