360° Jesus | Ascension

360° Jesus | Ascension

Often the mere mention of Jesus takes us straight to the Gospels. We think of him as the healer, teacher, preacher. He is, however, far more. In this series, we will look at him through heaven’s eyes as the logos, the prophesied King, the crucified Savior, and the risen Lord.

The disciples had been through so much with Jesus - His triumphal entry, the last supper, his arrest and crucifixion, and the silence of coming to grips with His death.
Their hopes were rekindled as He began appearing. They had their leader back and now He couldn’t be taken away ever again. They could finally accomplish everything they wanted.
They eventually ask Him the question that had been burning in their hearts.

Acts 1:5

For years the people of Israel wanted to restore their Kingdom lost centuries before and throw off their earthly oppressors, wondering if Jesus would be the leader of this revolution.
We often have this same idea of Jesus - wanting Him to fulfill our dreams, goals, and ambitions. We want Jesus to be on our side, instead of choosing to be on His.
We spend time trying to get God to fit into our plans instead of aligning our lives to His. It is okay to pray for ourselves, our challenges, and our families, but we have to also ask how many of our prayers are for God to use us to accomplish His plans, His work, and to build His Kingdom.

Acts 1:7-11

Jesus tells the disciples that it is not their place to know the times or dates of His return, only to be faithful and ready for it.
We will not be separated from Jesus forever - He will return visibly and bodily.
Jesus left:
To prepare a place for us.

John 14:1-3

To continually intercede and advocate.

Hebrews 7:24-25

1 John 2:1-2

So that we wouldn’t be alone.

John 16:7

Jesus was limited in His bodily form. However, the Spirit is in the life of every believer at every moment to teach, guide, remind, and convict. He helps us in our weaknesses and intercedes when we don’t know what we pray for. He produces life in the lives of those in whom He dwells.
Jesus left us with a mission and message.

Acts 1:8

This mission starts in your home, then your community, then your country, and then the world.
Our message is that Jesus is the answer and the way.

John 14:4-6

When we are witnessing about Jesus, we are acknowledging who He is and what separates Him from everyone else.
We carry out this mission and message through the power of the Holy Spirit, He empowers us as we step out.
