DIGGING DEEPER

The following questions are used during LifeGroups. If you aren't in a LifeGroup already, find a group and get involved by clicking the LifeGroups link above!
What is your favorite Easter tradition? Why is it meaningful to you?
Why do you think Mary Magdalene and the other women went to Jesus’s tomb that morning (v. 1)? How do you think they were feeling as they walked toward Jesus’s tomb (before they arrived)?
What did the women see at Jesus’s tomb (v. 1)? How did they respond (v. 2)? How do you think they were feeling at that point?
What did Peter and John (referred to as “the disciple whom Jesus loved”) do when they heard Jesus’s body was missing (v. 3-7)? Were they expecting this or were they surprised?
It was common in those days for the entrance to a tomb to be about 3 feet high (note that these verses say people “bent down” to look into the tomb). With no windows, it was probably dark and hard to see inside the tomb clearly without crawling inside. What did Peter and John see when they crawled into the tomb (v. 6-8)? What do you think they were thinking? What do you think John “believed” (v. 8, especially given the parenthetical statement in v. 9)?
What did the disciples not yet understand (v. 9)? Why did Jesus rise from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:17-26)?
What did the disciples do after investigating the tomb (v. 10)? What did Mary Magdalene do (v. 11)?
Who was the first to see Jesus after His resurrection (v. 15-18)? Why is that significant?
Why do you think Jesus told Mary not to cling to Him because He would be ascending to the Father (v. 17)? Why was Jesus pointing to his ascension immediately after His resurrection (see Philippians 3:20-21)?
