AS WE GATHER we watch the coronation of the King. What a bloody, horrific event it is, the crowning of our giving king. He has taken to the wooden throne, nails in his hands and thorns as a crown. He is stripped bare instead of wearing a royal robe. He is giving up his life, so that his kingdom might be safe. We have a giving King, and as we watch Jesus give his life for us, we are awestruck. What does this mean for us, the people of his kingdom, that we follow the Giving King?

THE INVOCATION
Pastor: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.

P: God spared not His own Son;
C: But delivered Him up for us all.

P: Those who have been baptized into Christ have been baptized into His death.
C: As Christ rose from the grave, so we who believe in Him will live forever.

THE COLLECT
Pastor: We thank You, our God and Loving Father, that You have drawn us to Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. By the memory of His Cross sustain us in our trials; comfort us in our sorrows; and strengthen us against temptation. Grant that it may be to us a continuing promise of the forgiveness of our sins and an eternal life of righteousness with You. In Jesus name we pray.
People: Amen.

WORSHIP SONG
Lead Me To The Cross
Brooke Fraser
CCLI Song No. 4785828

Savior I come quiet my soul
Remember redemption's hill
Where Your blood was spilled
For my ransom
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as loss

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me lead me to the cross

You were as I tempted and tried human
The word became flesh
Bore my sin and death
Now You're risen
Everything I once held dear
I count it all as loss

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me lead me to the cross

To Your heart
To Your heart
Lead me to Your heart
Lead me to Your heart

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me lead me

Lead me to the cross
Where Your love poured out
Bring me to my knees
Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Oh lead me lead me to the cross

REJECTED BY HUMANITY

THE SCRIPTURE LESSON.............Matthew 26:47-50
47While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.” 49And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 50Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.

Man of Sorrows
Verse 1
Man of sorrows, Lamb of God
by His own betrayed
The sin of man and wrath of God
has been on Jesus laid

Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out
hallelujah, praise and honor unto Thee

Verse 3
Sent of heaven, God’s own Son
To purchase and redeem
And reconcile the very ones
Who nailed Him to that tree

REJECTED BY CHURCH

THE SCRIPTURE LESSON........................Matthew 26:62-68
62And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?” 63But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66What is your judgment?” They answered, “He deserves death.” 67Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him, 68saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?”

Man of Sorrows

Verse 2
Silent as He stood accused
beaten, mocked and scorned
Bowing to the Father’s will
He took a crown of thorns

Chorus
Oh that rugged cross, my salvation
Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out
hallelujah, praise and honor unto Thee

Bridge
Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood that my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free,
oh, is free indeed

Bridge
Now my debt is paid
It is paid in full
By the precious blood that my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin has no hold on me
Whom the Son sets free,
oh, is free indeed

Where Your love poured out over me
Now my soul cries out
hallelujah, praise and honor unto Thee

REJECTED BY NATION

THE SCRIPTURE LESSON..............................Luke 23:6-11
6When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. 7And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time. 8When Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had long desired to see him, because he had heard about him, and he was hoping to see some sign done by him. 9So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him. 11And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate.

SONG
Worthy Is The Lamb

Thank You for the cross Lord
Thank You for the price You paid
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love You came and gave amazing grace

Thank You for this love Lord
Thank You for the nail-pierced hands
Washed me in Your cleansing flow
Now all I know Your forgiveness and embrace

Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious
High and lifted up
Jesus Son of God
The Darling of heaven crucified
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb

Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious
High and lifted up
Jesus Son of God
The Darling of heaven crucified
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb

REJECTED BY WORLD

THE SCRIPTURE LESSON................................Luke 23:20-24
20 Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, 21 but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” 22 A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.” 23 But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted.

THE INSTRUCTION

EXTINGUISHING OF THE FIFTH CANDLE

SONG
How Deep The Father's Love For Us

How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

I will not boast in anything
No gifts no pow’r no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Why should I gain from His reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
