THE HYMN “Jesus, Refuge of the Weary”………..
1 Jesus, refuge of the weary,
Blest Redeemer, whom we love,
Fountain in life’s desert dreary,
Savior from the world above:
Often have Your eyes, offended,
Gazed upon the sinner’s fall;
Yet upon the cross extended,
You have borne the pain of all.

2 Do we pass that cross unheeding,
Breathing no repentant vow,
Though we see You wounded, bleeding,
See Your thorn-encircled brow?
Yet Your sinless death has brought us
Life eternal, peace, and rest;
Only what Your grace has taught us
Calms the sinner’s deep distress.

3 Jesus, may our hearts be burning
With more fervent love for You;
May our eyes be ever turning
To behold Your cross anew
Till in glory, parted never
From the blessèd Savior’s side,
Graven in our hearts forever,
Dwell the cross, the Crucified.

THE INVOCATION AND OPENING SENTENCES

Pastor: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.

Pastor: He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him.
People: And with His stripes we are healed.

Pastor: Almighty God, graciously behold this Your family of faith, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, to be given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death on the cross; Who now lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, life without end.
People: Amen.

Pastor: We all, like sheep, have gone astray;
People: And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Pastor: Almighty and most merciful God, give us grace so to contemplate the Passion of our Lord that we may rejoice in the forgiveness of our sins which You have so graciously given to us; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord.
People: Amen.

THE HYMN “Jesus, in Your Dying Woes”……….LSB 447, stz. 1-3
1. Jesus, in Your dying woes,
Even while Your lifeblood flows,
Craving pardon for Your foes:
Hear us, holy Jesus.

2 Savior, for our pardon sue
When our sins Your pangs renew,
For we know not what we do:
Hear us, holy Jesus.

3 Oh, may we, who mercy need,
Be like You in heart and deed,
When with wrong our spirits bleed:
Hear us, holy Jesus.

SILENT PRAYER
WORSHIP SEGMENT 2
12:25 - 12:50 p.m.

THE HYMN “Come to Calvary’s Holy Mountain”…..
1 Come to Calv’ry’s holy mountain,
Sinners, ruined by the fall;
Here a pure and healing fountain
Flows for you, for me, for all,
In a full, perpetual tide,
Opened when our Savior died.

2 Come in poverty and meanness,
Come defiled, without, within;
From infection and uncleanness,
From the leprosy of sin,
Wash your robes and make them white;
Ye shall walk with God in light.

3 Come in sorrow and contrition,
Wounded, impotent, and blind;
Here the guilty, free remission,
Here the troubled, peace may find.
Health this fountain will restore;
They that drink shall thirst no more.

4 They that drink shall live forever;
’Tis a soul-renewing flood.
God is faithful; God will never
Break His covenant of blood,
Signed when our Redeemer died,
Sealed when He was glorified.

THE RESPONSIVE PSALM.......................Portions of Psalm 16
Pastor: Keep Me safe, God
People: For in You I take refuge.

Pastor: I have set the Lord always before Me,
People: Because He is at My right hand, I will not be shaken.

Pastor: Therefore My heart is glad; and My tongue rejoices
People: My body will also rest secure.

Pastor: Because You will not abandon Me to the grave,
People: Nor will You let Your Holy One see decay.

Pastor: You have made known to Me the path of life;
People: You will fill Me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.

Pastor: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
People: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

THE PRAYER
Pastor: Lord Jesus, You were rejected by the very people You came to save. You promised life and salvation to all who call upon Your name. Lord, preserve us from a spirit that would reject Your love. Give us the joy of calling on Your name in prayer, praise and thanksgiving. It is in Your most holy name we pray.
People: Amen.

WORSHIP SEGMENT 3

THE HYMN “Christ, the Life of All the Living”……LSB 420
1 Christ, the life of all the living,
Christ, the death of death, our foe,
Who, Thyself for me once giving
To the darkest depths of woe:
Through Thy suff’rings, death, and merit
I eternal life inherit.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.

6 Thou hast suffered great affliction
And hast borne it patiently,
Even death by crucifixion,
Fully to atone for me;
Thou didst choose to be tormented
That my doom should be prevented.
Thousand, thousand thanks shall be,
Dearest Jesus, unto Thee.

7 Then, for all that wrought my pardon,
For Thy sorrows deep and sore,
For Thine anguish in the Garden,
I will thank Thee evermore,
Thank Thee for Thy groaning, sighing,
For Thy bleeding and Thy dying,
For that last triumphant cry,
And shall praise Thee, Lord, on high.

THE RESPONSIVE PSALM....................Portions of Psalm 121

Pastor: I lift my eyes to the hills
People: Where does my help come from?

Pastor: My help comes from the Lord,
People: The Maker of heaven and earth.

Pastor: The Lord will keep you from all harm ¾
People: He will watch over your life;

Pastor: The Lord will watch over your coming and going
People: Both now and forevermore.

Pastor: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
People: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

THE PRAYER
Pastor: Lord Jesus, in Your greatest hour of need You were denied by Your chosen disciples. In fear they fled and in ignorance they denied You. We have also denied You as we allowed the things of this world to become foremost in our lives. We have denied You as we have allowed our own desires to take precedence over Your will. Restore us to new life through the forgiveness You have earned for us on the cross that we would gladly take up our cross and faithfully follow You. In Your name we pray.
People: Amen.

THE HYMN “In the Cross of Christ I Glory”………..LSB 427
1 In the cross of Christ I glory,
Tow’ring o’er the wrecks of time.
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.

2 When the woes of life o’ertake me,
Hopes deceive, and fears annoy,
Never shall the cross forsake me;
Lo, it glows with peace and joy.

3 When the sun of bliss is beaming
Light and love upon my way,
From the cross the radiance streaming
Adds more luster to the day.

4 Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure
By the cross are sanctified;
Peace is there that knows no measure,
Joys that through all time abide.

THE RESPONSIVE PSALM........................Portions of Psalm 22
Pastor: My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?
People: Why are You so far from Me, so far from the words of My groaning?

Pastor: O My God, I cry out by day, but You do not answer,
People: By night I am not silent.

Pastor: All who seek Me mock Me;
People: They hurl insults, shaking their heads.

Pastor: He trusts in the Lord; let the Lord rescue Him.
People: Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him.

Pastor: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
People: As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

THE PRAYER
Pastor: Dear Lord Jesus, before You endured the physical agony of the whips and crown of thorns and before You encountered the suffering of the cross, You experienced the pain of a broken heart as You were rejected by the people You came to love and heal and save. We confess that we too have rejected You even after You have blessed us with words of forgiveness and Your healing touch of life. We have rejected You when our lips and our lives fail to love one another as You have loved us. Help us again to hear Your words of forgiveness from the cross that we would be restored to new life. In Your name we pray.
People: Amen.

1 Glory be to Jesus,
Who in bitter pains
Poured for me the lifeblood
From His sacred veins!

2 Grace and life eternal
In that blood I find;
Blest be His compassion,
Infinitely kind!

3 Blest through endless ages
Be the precious stream
Which from endless torment
Did the world redeem!

4 Abel’s blood for vengeance
Pleaded to the skies;
But the blood of Jesus
For our pardon cries.

5 Oft as earth exulting
Wafts its praise on high,
Angel hosts rejoicing
Make their glad reply.

6 Lift we, then, our voices,
Swell the mighty flood;
Louder still and louder
Praise the precious blood!

Our wand’ring feet must go.
You faced with us temptation’s pow’r
And fought our ancient foe.

Can fill our hung’ring hearts.
Lord, help us seek Your living Word,

Lord, help us place our trust alone
In Your unswerving love.

Our wills with Yours align.

Our wand’ring feet must go.
Stay with us through temptation’s hour

THE HYMN “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”…....LSB 425
1 When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride.

2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

3 See, from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

4 Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a tribute far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all!
