Zacchaeus is looking for acceptance, he’s seeking fulfillment... he was spiritually sick
Tax collectors in Jesus’ time were thrown into the same class of people as prostitutes and other “sinners”.
The time was right and he was going to find out what this Messiah could do to his life, to heal his soul wounded by the sin in his life.
It’s easy to laugh at the short guy up in the tree, but I want you to look actually at his devotion. We don’t know his entire state of mind, but the time was right for Zacchaeus to encounter the Living God.
Jesus makes the first move by coming to the lost soul and offering life through Himself.
For Zacchaeus, it’s not a prideful joy, but more of a heartfelt joy at being in the presence of the one who can fix his soul.
What leads Zacchaeus to this?
The Transformed Heart
This desire to make amends shows us that repentance – that’s really what’s going on here with paying back – goes hand in hand with salvation.
If you count yourself as a follower of Jesus then you are a transformed person as well. Are you letting that ongoing transformation take place?
The purpose of the church is to glorify God in all we do. Part of that purpose is becoming a conduit for God’s restoration of the lost and rejected… by seeking them out, not by remaining isolated from them.
We as Christians are called to step into the void, showing the way to the source of hope and light in the midst of darkness.
Followers of Jesus are willing to look for the lost and share the hope they need with them. Let us be people who do that, for the glory of God.
♪ The Stand

You stood before creation
Eternity in Your hand
You spoke the earth into motion
My soul now to stand
You stood before my failure
And carried the cross for my shame
My sin weighed upon Your shoulders
My soul now to stand
So what can I say
And what can I do
But offer this heart O God
Completely to You
So I'll walk upon salvation
Your Spirit alive in me
My life to declare Your promise
My soul now to stand
So I'll stand, with arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the One who gave it all
I'll stand, my soul Lord to You surrendered
All I am is Yours

Find the small group that is just right for you!

There are several options for all ages!
Some groups are low commitment with no homework and each meeting is a stand-alone study, so you don't have to worry if you can't make it each time. Some are more in-depth and encourage digging deeper on your own time and then coming back to discuss more!
Most are still meeting on Zoom, however, there are a few in-person options!
