When God Walked Alone–Part 3
People have different perspectives about heaven. Some believe that we will all end up there. Others think only “good” people make it to heaven. But there has always been only one way to get right with God, and it has nothing to do with what we do for God. It’s all about what He did for us. Throughout this series, we will discover how to begin a relationship with God, understand ideas surrounding the Gospel, and equip you with more confidence so you can discuss the Bible message with others. Ultimately, we will answer the question—can we know for sure we’ll go to heaven?

When God Walked Alone—Part 3
[Tim Haring]
Problem | People are trusting in the wrong thing to get right with God
Solution | It’s not what we do for God that matters; it’s what he did for us
How does a person get right with God?

Mistake #1 |Biblical terminology—faith, belief or trust—is replaced with other words such as commit, follow, or give

Mistake #2 | The focus is on what we will do for God instead of what he did for us

Mistake #3 | Bible verses related to discipleship are used to explain salvation
Popular problematic phrases:
“Invite Jesus into your heart.”
Popular problematic phrases:
“Surrender your life to Christ.”
Christians are those who have decided to give their lives to Christ. So, to become a Christian is an act of surrender. We offer all that we have been (all our sins and failures), all that we are (all that we possess and hold), and all that will be (our ambitions and destiny) and give them over to God. —Author Unknown
Popular problematic phrases:
“We need to follow Jesus.”
Popular problematic phrases:
“Make Jesus the Lord of your life.”
“The confession is an acknowledgement that God has been incarnated in Jesus, that Jesus Christ is God. Also essential is heart-faith that God raised Him from the dead. The result is salvation.” –Dr. Witmer, Bible Knowledge Commentary
“What must be believed is that ‘Jesus is Lord.’ This quintessential affirmation is perhaps the earliest Christian confession of faith. It proclaims in the simplest possible words that Jesus of Nazareth is in fact God. The Greek word used throughout the [Old Testament documents] for Yahweh (over six thousand times) is here applied to Jesus.” –Dr. Mounce
“The implications of this are staggering. Primarily it means that Jesus’ authority is absolute, unlimited, and universal.” –Dr. Mounce
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand.
