At GTWY Church...we call our weekly "Messages" CONVERSATIONS. Some people still call them sermons. Wonder what people called the teachings of Jesus in the 1st century? I doubt anyone complained that Jesus preached too long! One of his longest "conversations" recorded for the called THE SERMON on the MOUNT. And that sermon begins in Matthew 5 with nine "benedictions", or blessings. Rooted in a formula common to the Psalms...Jesus shares powerful just a few succinct phrases. Familiar phrases to most people...but, have we really heard what Jesus means? This February we begin a journey with Jesus from Matthew's gospel, that will continue through 2021. Let's listen well, & consider the words of Jesus SERIOUSLY. This WKND, our focus is on the "blessings" from Jesus in Matthew 5:6-8.

“What else does this craving, and this helplessness, proclaim but that there was once in man a true happiness, of which all that now remains is the empty print and trace?
This he tries in vain to fill with everything around him, seeking in things that are not there the help he cannot find in those that are, though none can help, since this infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words by God Himself.”

- Blaise Pascal Pensées VII (425) 1670
