January 3, 2021 | LEAP Into 2021
Most of us are creeping into 2021, with frequent glances over our shoulder. Is the pandemic going to end? Will the vaccine work? What will the future of business look like? What will church look like? What will politics look like in 2021? I’m not sure I like the prospects for the future. Pastor John is going to give you reasons today to LEAP into 2021 – bold, confident and prepared to tackle whatever is ahead.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-15
Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another. We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
Live with confidence and hope in Christ.
…we will live together with Him. v. 10
“Zoe” is a reminder that the fullness of life is not in our circumstances or status or even in the company we keep—it’s tied to Who we walk with.
Paul uses “sun,” which means “intertwined” and makes it clear that we are able to live our lives wrapped up in Christ.
Know Him — Enjoy Him — Trust Him
John 15:7-8
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
The Bible-believing Christian doesn’t have to invent new ways to live life based on new circumstances – just walk with Him through all circumstances.
What decisions will you make to “live with Him” in the days ahead?
Encourage one another in the body.
Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up…v. 11
Within the church, we’re to not only “call out to encourage” but also “roll up our sleeves” for each other in building our lives.
Look around you. Who needs to be encouraged, or needs help building their lives?
Appreciate your leaders.
…you appreciate those who diligently labor among you… v. 12
Patience like never before.
…be patient with everyone… v. 14
Live in peace — admonish the unruly — encourage the fainthearted — help the weak — be patient — don’t repay evil for evil.
