The Church and Sin Within the Body

· Reminder: God hates sin because it destroys and kills

· There are two sins that Paul is trying to correct: sexual sin on the part of the man, arrogance on the part of the church

· Sin’s character is that it always grows and contaminates all it touches

· God desires His church to be a part of His loving discipline directed towards a sinning child (Matthew 18:15-17)

· The goal of church discipline is 2-fold: Protection of the body and repentance of the sinner (Galatians 6:1-2)


The Church and Sin Outside the Body

· We have no business judging unbelievers who sin

· Our American heritage, our right to free speech, our right to vote, our culture complicates this truth for us

· We should use our earthy rights to speak truth in love, to vote our values, but not to judge and condemn

· What our country needs is Jesus – seen in us as we live on mission


Take-Aways

· You are holy – live who you are! Walk in obedience!

· There is protection in obedience (John 15:9-10)

· There is protection living in community

· Church membership is as important, if not more important today than it has ever been for our protection (Hebrews 13:17)
