One of Satan’s tools is to keep us from seeing the long term impact of our decisions.
Our obedience to God has tremendous power beyond the moment - as illustrated in 1 Kings.
God uses prophets to bring the people and the kings of Israel back to God through repentance.
God uses Elijah to communicate to King Ahab and Jezebel and to reveal who is the true God of Israel.
God is not just revealing himself to the Israelites, but he is demonstrating his provision to the prophet.
God has built Elijah’s faith, but now it is time to build the widow’s faith.
The woman trusts God and takes the initial step of faith. The resupply was greater than the gift. However, the resupply came after the gift.
We lay down our physical kingdom to inherit an eternal kingdom. We lay down our mortality to take hold of eternity. The resupply is greater than the gift. It goes beyond the moment.
Not long ago the widow was prepared to lose her son. Now she has been given a bonus round. However, if she had not taken the original step of faith, she would have lost all of the precious moments in between.
That does not stop her from getting upset and frustrated. She goes so far as to blame Elijah.
Not once but twice, Elijah saved this boy’s life. The first time from starvation, the second time from an illness. She had no idea when she made the decision to trust God, to be generous to Elijah, all that would transpire.
1. Yes to God is not a pass on hardship!
Even when you say yes, you are not exempt from hardship.
God doesn't always deliver us, but he never abandons us!
There was no way she could have known how powerful her first yes would be.
That is what Satan tries to steal from us. The eternal power of our yes’s toward God.
The ripples of her faith are still continuing to this day.
You cannot harvest where you have not scattered seed. You don’t reap eternal life until you sow your life and give it away. Whatever you give over to God is a step of faith.
Each day we have a chance to grow our faith or let it dwindle. Faith is not neutral, it is either getting stronger or weaker.
3. When Jesus said yes to us, he had to say no to himself. Jesus had to pour out his life, so he could pour into ours. His sacrifice, his obedience went beyond the moment.
