SERMON NOTES: "Moment of Truth"
Dr. Gordon Dabbs
Proverbs 12:22 (NIV) The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.
James 5.12 (ESV) But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
Honesty is a big deal to God – speaking truth must be a high priority for the disciple of Jesus.
Matthew 5.37 (ESV) Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.
Proverbs 26.23 (NLT) Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot.
1 Peter 3.10 (ESV) Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. . .
Truthfulness is a pathway to life and good days, not an arbitrary rule God invented to make life more complicated.
Ephesians 4.15 (NLT) Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.
